I set up this website after a recent renewal of personal creativity, and in particular an interest in making things in the real world. I've spent many years as a web designer, but the profession has, over the last 4-5 years, lost touch with the craft of visual design and the responsibility of communications. So, perhaps as a response to this, I have begun to seek out older forms of expression, in order to find a new purpose.
I am enjoying both the hobbyist arts of painting miniatures and also the "finer" arts of ink, watercolour, and acrylic on canvas, paper, and other grounds. Both realms have much to offer for expressive work and a bit of knowledge in one realm pays off in the other.
Ultimately for me it's the colours themselves that spark my joy. Ever since I was a young child waiting for a Christmas resuppy of felt-tipped marker pens in their infinite variety, I have eagerly saught more and more ways to mix and use colours. My first real computer was an Amiga 500, which held the promise of 4,096 colours to use at once... albeit with some serious technical limitations. But computer colours don't have the same thrill of discovery and creation as one gets from taking raw materials and putting something entirely new onto the canvas.
This site, then, is a reference work, a gathering of memories, and a collection of colours in new and old forms. I hope it is of use and I hope it brings some enjoyment.
